Who We Are

Our Mission Statement (objective) as per legislation with the Charities Commission reads that we aim to provide:

“The relief of sickness and the preservation and protection of health of those persons who have suffered, or are sufferers, from breast cancer, by the provision of grants as the Trustees see fit”.

To explain in more detail……

We are a committed group of people who have a vested interest in breast cancer, either as a patient, as a carer, or as a friend. We’ve been there!

This unique group of people is based in Northamptonshire, raising funds through a variety of means, to support breast cancer care in all forms across the County. The two main hospitals we support are Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals and more recently a percentage of our funds are given to the Plastic Surgery Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary where many women who live locally go to have breast reconstruction procedures. We also support the Northamptonshire Lymphoedema and Aromatherapy Services at Northampton General Hospital, as well as other smaller agencies, e.g. beauty/hair departments.

“Together we CAN make a difference!”

As well as receiving many generous donations from individuals, groups and companies, funds are raised through organised events, mainly our Annual Sponsored Walk held at Wicksteed Park and Sales of Merchandise in October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), together with dances, concerts and many hands-on practical events, i.e. crazy hat making!

We have been in existence for 5 years and in that time have raised a staggering £400,000+ and our aim is to reach the magical £½ million by the end of 2007. Please help us to do that!

With the funds raised we have been able to support many, many projects with our breast care units and we have many more exciting and demanding projects to achieve. The wish lists just seem to get longer and longer.

We believe our charity is successful because we are local and all monies raised go towards agreed projects with the hospitals. We are fortunate, in fact delighted, to say that we have one of the County’s top consultant oncologists (Dr Roy Mathew) as our President and other leading surgeons and doctors as Vice presidents and Honorary Members.

Breast cancer touches the hearts of so, so many people. It is a serious subject – it is a disease that sadly is not going to go away. We do all we can to help everyone go through their journey and beyond by having as much fun as we can and by living for today.

The future for our Charity is unknown, as is life in general, but knowing how we have started, we know we have the vision, we know we have the enthusiasm and certainly the drive to make an even bigger difference to breast cancer care in Northamptonshire.
