Having breast cancer is the best thing that ever happened to me ...
“Let me explain. Pre-breast cancer I was very depressed and would spend a lot of time at home, not wanting to go out, not wanting to get dressed, not wanting to do anything really.
Post breast cancer I heard about Crazy Hats and I felt drawn to go along to one of their coffee and chat mornings. I remember it was busy and it was noisy, but I soon realised there were people just like me there and I suddenly found the confidence to talk, to talk not just about my breast cancer but about how I felt generally.
It all seemed so natural and so comfortable. I made new friends – many new friends and in time became involved with the charity by offering to help when they were busy.
I’m very proud to say that I am now a committee member and I am doing things I never thought I would do again. When I put my uniform on it gives me a purpose in life …… yes, as strange as it may seem, breast cancer is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
